Some twenty years ago mark Mercedes-Benz dared to enter into a new segment of the market by releasing the 190th model (factory number of the body W201) and winning the leadership of prestige in the European segment D. Besides that, after that the company began to closely compete with the well-known 3rd series of BMW.

Several years later, it was found out, that now this already a whole model range became the key element in all the manufacture of cars of the concern. In violation of the tradition, the concern continued to give the index "190" to all models of the W201 family, without dependence on their volume of the engine, adding only additional figures in the name of the model.

When making this model, experts of the company, first of all, counted on the category of young people. And consequently created a compact, maneuverable and, at the same time, economic car, combining high standards of Mercedes-Benz with a small and light auto. The small sedan became a true car from Mercedes-Benz, preserving the excellent quality, comfort and convenience inherent in vehicles of other classes. Mercedes-Benz 190 has a democratic enough and convenient interior, though without excessive luxury, but with a high degree of active and passive safety. High-speed autos from BMW were opposed by model 190 E 2.3-16 with an expressive 185 h.p. 16-valve motor M102.983, speeding up the sports one-and-a-half sedan up to 225 km/h. Besides that, the car is differed by the developed aerodynamic bumpers and sills, a spoiler on the cover of the luggage carrier, low-section tires 205/55 ZR15 and a strict furnish of the interior.
