Farhat fulfilling a lifetime opportunity (Naples Daily News)
Whether providence, or sheer determination, Mercedes Farhat is fulfilling the opportunity of a lifetime. She is swimming in the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing. In the opening night festivities she walked with her father and coach, Kamal, under Libya’s flag, where her father was born. In her first swimming event, she made history as Libya’s first woman to swim in the Olympics.
